Think again.
Most writers need someone to edit their manuscript. Having
your best friend read it and say, “I really love your book!”
will not help you pass the scrutiny of an editor or agent.
You need a professional critique to find all the problems
that appear invisible to you, the creator. Why? Because you
are too close to the story, and assume the reader knows what
is in your head, even if it is not on the written page. You
can reread every page and still miss mistakes that an
impartial, experienced and critical eye will find.
A professional critique cannot guarantee publication, but
sending a clean, well-edited manuscript will certainly
increase your chances. Publishers buy books from new and
established authors every day, but they only buy the best.
The list of common mistakes is long, and applies equally to
new writers as well as accomplished authors.
Our goal is to make your manuscript shine by enhancing your
voice. Many writers think that by changing and deleting
words they will lose their voice—not true. Your voice will
take shape when redundancies and extraneous words are
eliminated, and every word choice is perfect.
Our critique and editing prices are some of the lowest you
will find. Why? Because we understand what it is like to be
a struggling writer. We offer different levels of critique
service for book manuscripts: Copy edit, detailed
edit/critique and line by line edit/critique:
Copy Edit:
Includes a written critique of not less than three pages and
not more than ten (depending on the length of the
manuscript). This level of critique is geared for
experienced and published authors alike, and will offer
general advice and feedback on story consistency and
content.
Detailed Edit/Critique:
Includes a more in depth written critique, plus problem
areas will be marked throughout the manuscript at the place
in question, which makes revisions easier. The critique will
vary depending on the length of manuscript and the number of
issues found.
Line by Line Edit/Critique:
Includes in depth, line by line editing with
explanations of the problems found and possible solutions.
Every manuscript is different and treated as such. You will
receive a general assessment of three to ten pages, most of
the editing will be located at the line/word in question.
This is an intense edit and requires a slightly longer
turn-around time. We respect your individual voice;
therefore, you will always be the final judge of all
changes. Suggestions will be made, but it is your work;
therefore, you will decide what to change and how to make
the appropriate changes. As editors, it is our job to point
out noticeable flaws and offer possible solutions for you to
consider. The ultimate goal is publication. A line by line
edit is the perfect tool for beginning writers, or any
writer that needs extra attention and suggested changes on a
line by line basis. We look for every element necessary to
prepare your book for presentation to an agent or publisher.
We use the Microsoft Word Track Changes feature to edit and
critique.
